The Best SoHo Movers

SoHo has seen a lot of changes over the years. Once an industrial area turned artist haven, SoHo is now home to high end art galleries, restaurants, and retailers. The name SoHo is a portmanteau of South of Houston Street (pronounced Howston not Hewston) and describes the general northernmost boundary of the neighborhood. Besides the amazing restaurants and shops, SoHo is a great place to walk if you like architecture as it is home to the largest collection of cast iron buildings in the world. In fact, most of the neighborhood was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1978.

If you were lucky enough to find an apartment in SoHo, then make the move easy by reaching out to NYC Great Movers. We’ve moved thousands of customers since 2011 and we know exactly how to navigate the streets and buildings of SoHo. We can help with every aspect of the move whether you want to add-on our platinum packing service or maybe want to buy a few packing materials from us. We’ve got you covered.

Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top SoHo Moving Tips

Cost of Living

Living in SoHo is not cheap and it’s no surprise considering how many people want to move to this neighborhood. Still, if you can afford the almost $6,000 rent for a one-bedroom, it’s definitely a great location as you’re close to pretty much everything you could need!

Transportation

Getting in and out of SoHo is a breeze as it has access to almost all the train lines besides the L, G, 7, and Shuttles. It’s also very walkable and you have access to pretty much everything you need within walking distance whether that’s nightlife or a laundromat.

Crime and Safety

In general, SoHo is a pretty safe neighborhood. Crime does tend to be a bit higher here than other areas due to the concentration of high end retailers. Unsurprisingly, the number one crime in the area is grand larceny with violent crime ranking very low. What does that mean for you? Overall, it’s totally safe to walk around at almost all hours of the night, just don’t wear a lot of expensive jewelry, watches, etc. and be aware of your surroundings.

What to Do and See

It’s almost easier to list the things you might not be able to do in SoHo. There’s so much in this area that you can probably spend a year here and not have seen and done everything. If you’re into fashion, SoHo is home to some luxury stores like Tiffany’s, Bloomingdale’s, Alexander Wang, and more. Of course, if you can’t afford that, there are plenty of more affordable options on Broadway including chains like Uniqlo, Zara, and Aritzia. If you prefer shopping for fine art pieces, there are dozens of small galleries dotted around SoHo where you can pick up a painting or print. If you can’t afford anything for your new place, then check out places like The Drawing Center and Artist Space for up-and-coming artists.

SoHo is also a great place for foodies. It’s home to the famous Balthazar, a delicious french-inspired bistro that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you want to enjoy some tacos, head over to La Esquina then head downstairs for access to their speakeasy tequila bar. Prefer some Italian? Head over to La Pecora Bianca for a chic atmosphere and delicious food. And if partying is more your thing then there are so many options to choose from. Houston Hall is a great place if you’re looking for a traditional German style beer hall complete with pretzels and long tables. Or if you’re looking for a no-frills night out, head to Milano’s a historic bar that offers decent food, strong drinks, and local patrons.
