Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top Long Island City Moving Tips

Cost of Living

Queens in general tends to have lower rental prices than Manhattan, but Long Island City is an exception, especially if you plan on moving into one of the luxury condos. You can expect to pay around $3,000 for a one bedroom if you rent or you can spend around $600,000 to buy. You may still be able to find more affordable options if you keep your eyes peeled, but the apartment will probably be in an older building.

Transportation

Unlike other areas in Queens, Long Island City is well connected when it comes to public transportation. You can catch several train lines including the 7, E, M, F, G, N, and W trains as well as the Long Island Rail Road. There are also several local and express buses that take you to different parts of Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan and a ferry stop that takes you to the Financial District and Murray Hill.

Crime and Safety

Long Island City is one of the safest neighborhoods in NYC with crime rates significantly lower than the NYC average. In addition to a police department, LIC is served by two fire stations.

What to Do and See

Long Island City has seen an explosion of amenities as more and more people relocate to this once industrial neighborhood. As such there’s plenty to do for recent transplants. Foodies will be in heaven with all the different options available including Michelin starred Casa Enrique. Enjoy some drinks and light bites along the East River at Blend on the Water or indulge in the ultimate diner experience at Court Square Diner any time of day as it is open 24/7.

Long Island City offers more than just food. Walk along Gantry Plaza State Park for some gorgeous views of the East River and Manhattan. The park covers the length of Long Island City and besides a nice walkway has playgrounds for kids, a basketball court, and a skateboarding area. Art enthusiasts will also have a great time in LIC as it is home to the Noguchi Museum, which features 13 galleries and an outdoor sculpture garden by sculptor Isamu Noguchi. It’s also home to MoMA PS1, one of the oldest and largest non-profit contemporary art institutions in the United States.
