Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top Morningside Heights Moving Tips

Cost of Living

As one of the older neighborhoods in Manhattan, you might be able to find some coveted rent stabilized apartments. With that said, rents aren’t particularly cheap here. You might be able to find a one-bedroom under $2,500, but most places will be around $3,000+.

Transportation

It’s easy to get around Morningside Heights thanks to the 1, A, B, C and D trains. There are also plenty of bus routes available that will get you downtown and cross town and, of course, the area is super walkable.

Crime and Safety

Although Morningside Heights has a slightly higher crime rate than the city overall, it’s stil considered quite safe due to the vigilance of the police department and Columbia University public safety. The area is also served by two fire departments.

What to Do and See

With the presence of two universities, it’s no surprise that Morningside Heights has a great foodie and nightlife scene. The Arts and Crafts Beer Parlor is a great place to enjoy some craft beer and delicious food. Or head up to The Craftsman for some tasty cocktails by night and an espresso during the day. Good food isn’t hard to come by here. West Place is a neighborhood favorite for some no-frills Chinese but if you want something a bit more fancy, try Marlow Bistro for some Mediterranean fare.

Besides eating and drinking, there’s a lot to do in the area. You can enjoy a relaxing stroll at Morningside Park or Riverside Park. During spring, go to Sakura Park to enjoy the cherry trees when they are in bloom. Afterwards, visit the iconic Low Memorial Library, a Greek-inspired building that serves as Columbia’s central library. After that, check out the beautiful Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, a Gothic-style cathedral, for its beautiful architecture or to catch a musical performance.
