The Best Forest Hills Movers
This centrally located neighborhood in Queens has become increasingly popular among families due to its safety, good schools, and affordable prices (by NYC standards). The mostly residential neighborhood provides a quiet place for people to relax after a long day of hustling in the city that never sleeps. But don’t be fooled, there’s still plenty to do and see around the neighborhood including checking out the old US Open tennis stadium at the West Side Tennis Club.
Queens can be confusing even for native New Yorkers. Luckily, we’ve moved hundreds of people to Forest Hills and beyond so we know how to get around this cozy neighborhood. If you’ve found your dream home, make sure to give us a call so we can help make your Forest Hills move nice and simple. We’ll take care of the heavy lifting, all you need to do is make sure you turn your new apartment into a comfortable home. Our Top Forest Hills Moving Tips
Cost of Living
Compared to the rest of NYC, Forest Hills is on the more affordable end. There’s a wide variety of apartment options to choose from including pre-war apartments, Tudor-style townhouses, and your typical single family houses. If you plan on renting, expect to pay around $3,000 for a one-bedroom, which might not seem cheap, but you’re getting a lot of space. Want to own a house? The average listing goes for $450,000 for an apartment, so it might be worth your while to save up for a downpayment.
Transportation
Queens is notoriously difficult to get to due to its limited number of subway stations, but Forest Hills luckily has a few train lines including the M, R, E and F at 71st Avenue. If you’d like to go to Long Island, you can hop on the LIRR at the Forest Hills. There are also numerous bus routes that will take you further into Queens or into Manhattan.
Crime and Safety
As a mostly residential neighborhood, the area has a very low crime rate in comparison to the rest of the city. The area is served by one police station and one fire department. And while there isn’t a hospital in Forest Hills, there are several nearby.
What to Do and See
Forest Hills is considered a suburb of NYC and as such you shouldn’t expect the same amount of restaurants, bars, and other nightlife activities here as you might see in younger neighborhoods like Long Island City or Astoria. Instead, you can enjoy the 500+ acre Forest Park, which is the tenth largest park in New York City. There are numerous hiking trails, a playground, carousel, and more to enjoy! They even have a stable there so you can go horseback riding. If you want to hike even further, make sure to take Willows Lake Trail, which will lead you into the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
All that walking will probably make you peckish, so try out some delicious fresh noodles at Xin Taste Lan Zhou Hand Pull Noodles or Tamashii Ramen. Then recharge with some sweets at Eddie’s Sweet Shop or Martha’s Country Bakery. When it comes to bars, there are a few to check out including Forest Hill Station House and Cobblestones Pub and Biergarten.
