Reliable Flatlands Movers
Located in the Southeast portion of Brooklyn, the Flatlands offers a peek into NYC’s Dutch colonial roots. Walking around the area is like being transported back to the 1600s thanks to its colonial era architecture. However, the neighborhood isn’t stuck in past and offers plenty of modern amenities to keep residents satisfied.
If you’re planning a move to Flatlands, NYC Great Movers makes the whole process simple and worry-free. Our Brooklyn-based crew takes care of every step, whether it’s packing, transporting, or unpacking your belongings. With straightforward pricing and personalized service, we handle the hard work so you can start exploring your new neighborhood and enjoy all the local shops, parks, and culture Flatlands has to offer.

Our Top Flatlands Moving Tips
Cost of Living
Flatlands is Brooklyn’s best kept secret, and as such you can still find fairly affordable (for NYC) rents and home prices. The average rent of a one-bedroom is around $1,800 and homes will cost you around $650,000.
Transportation
The downside of living in the Flatlands is its distance from Manhattan. You do have access to public transportation via the 2 and 5 as well as some bus routes, but many residents own a car. Of course, that’s the price you might have to pay for a quieter home life.
Crime and Safety
As a mostly residential neighborhood, the Flatlands is relatively safe with overall crime being lower than the city as a whole. It’s patrolled by one police station, but it’s doubtful you’ll run into too much crime in the area. The area is also serviced by one fire station.
What to Do and See
The Flatlands got its name from its flat and marshy terrain. When the Dutch initially settled there, it was sparsely populated as it was difficult to farm. However, now it has become a thriving community and you can still see remnants of its marshy past at the Salt Marsh Nature Center. There are also other remnants of its history, most notably the Flatlands Reformed Church, which has been a fixture in the area since the 1600s.
While the neighborhood might feel like a suburb, it still has plenty to offer in the way of activities. You can go to the Marine Park, which is Brooklyn’s largest park where you can enjoy some nature hikes and bike trails or enjoy a couple rounds at the Marine Park Golf Course. When it comes to local eats, there are plenty of places to enjoy including the Milk & Honey cafe for some delicious coffee and baked goods, Kreyol Flavor for some classic Haitian cuisine, or if you just want a good sandwich, head over to Utica Deli Grill.
