Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top Erasmus Moving Tips

Cost of Living
While rents are increasing almost everywhere in NYC, Erasmus remains relatively affordable with the average one-bedroom costing around $2,000. You can buy a house for around $1 million if you’d like some more space.
Transportation
On the transportation front, Erasmus is serviced by the 2 and 5 trains which provides plenty of access to Brooklyn and Manhattan. If you don’t mind walking a bit, you can also access the B and Q lines.
Crime and Safety
Erasmus is relatively safe with violent crime rates around the same as NYC as a whole. The community really looks out for each other and, of course, there’s also a police department that serves the area so they are never too far away if something happens. It is also served by nearby fire station in Flatbush.
What to Do and See
As the hub for Caribbean flavors, there are plenty of restaurants to enjoy, but definitely check out Peppa’s Jerk Chicken in nearby Flatbush. For some fusion flavors, head over to Errol’s bakery for some Caribbean flavors mixed with pizza and/or tacos. Or try some French Caribbean flavors at Ital Kitchen.

Erasmus is a historic neighborhood and is home to Erasmus Hall High School, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It was the first accredited secondary school in the United States, backed by the likes of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. While no longer a high school, the building has been turned into Erasmus Hall Educational Campus and now home to five separate schools. It’s also home to the Wyckoff House Museum, one of the oldest surviving Dutch Colonial houses in the United States. The museum provides insight into the area’s colonial history. And thanks to its proximity to Flatbush, you have easy access to Prospect Park, which is home to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. And the Brooklyn Museum is just a stone’s throw away.
