The Best East Harlem Movers

Also known as Spanish Harlem or El Barrio, this neighborhood is not actually considered to be a part of Harlem proper, instead being considered a neighborhood as part of the Greater Harlem area. While it has gone through multiple transformations over the centuries, East Harlem continues to offer a vibrant blend of culture, energy, and amenities. It’s full of history, in fact the blocks of East 111th through 120th street between Park and Pleasant Avenue, were listed on the National Register of Historic Places back in 2019. And while it’s rapidly gentrifying, you can still snag a good deal on rents if you avoid the luxury buildings.

There’s no reason your move to East Harlem has to be stressful. If you work with NYC Great Movers, we’ll make your transition as seamless as possible. Our team has decades of experience performing commercial and residential moves to every part of East Harlem. And we’re more than happy to help you regardless of whether your move is large or small. With NYC Great Movers, your relocation to East Harlem will be so easy you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the neighborhood after you move into your new place.

Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top East Harlem Moving Tips

Cost of Living

While more small businesses and people are moving to East Harlem, rents are still considerably lower than other parts of Manhattan. You can easily find a one-bedroom apartment for around $2,500. Of course, if you choose to splurge on a luxury apartment, you can expect to pay at least $3,000.

Transportation

Want to get to lower Manhattan? No problem, you have the 4, 5, and 6 trains at your disposal in East Harlem. Sadly, there aren’t any cross town trget out of the city? Hop on the Harlem-125th street Metro North stop and check out some townains, but you can hop on one of the many buses that will take you to the west side. Want to s in Westchester.

Crime and Safety

East Harlem is home to two police departments. While crime rates are significantly lower than back in the 90s, it’s still much higher than Manhattan overall. That doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to be a victim of a crime. It does mean that you should be more careful here than in other parts of Manhattan. Always be alert, avoid staying out late at night, and be aware of your surroundings at all times.

What to Do and See

East Harlem is a neighborhood steeped in history and culture. Head to the Museum of the City of New York where you can learn more about this amazing city through captivating exhibits. Or head to El Museo del Barrio, which was founded in 1969 to present and preserve the art and culture of Puerto Ricans and all Latin Americans. It is the nation’s first Latin American cultural institution. After you’ve visited the museums, you can enjoy a brief respite at Central Park.

When it comes to food, East Harlem has some of the best Latin American and Caribbean flavors in Manhattan. Grab some authentic Puerto Rican food at Cocotazo or try some Dominican food at El Nuevo Caridad. Or check out La Marqueta, a historic marketplace located below the Metro-North tracks. Managed and sponsored by the NYC Economic Development Corporation, the property was revitalized thanks to allocations provided by the NYC City Council.
