Cost of Living
Living in Downtown Hoboken isn’t cheap. Rent for a one-bedroom is around $3,400 and buying a home can cost you around $980,000. Still, the benefits of living in Hoboken can far outweigh the costs. After all, you probably won’t need a car and you have two of the most lively cities at your fingertips.
Transportation
Outside of NYC, Hoboken is one of the most walkable cities in the United States. It doesn’t hurt that the entire city is only one square mile so it’s easy to get to every point of interest in 15-20 minutes. If you do want to travel outside of Downtown Hoboken you can hop onto the PATH to go to Jersey City or Manhattan. Or get on the light rail to go further into New Jersey. Better yet, travel by water on one of the NYC ferries.
Crime and Safety
Downtown Hoboken is one of the safer cities in the United States, but due to its close proximity to transportation hubs, the many bars, and the young demographic, it has a slightly higher crime rate when compared to uptown Hoboken. Still, it’s relatively safe and though the area can get rowdy on the weekends.
What to Do and See
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day in a park or a night out, downtown Hoboken has you covered. Walk along the gorgeous waterfront park and enjoy the view from land or water via a kayak. If you’re a fishing enthusiast, head to Pier C and cast off at the fishing pier. Or stay inland and play some basketball with friends at Church Square Park.
There are also plenty of seasonal events to enjoy. Downtown Hoboken hosts the annual Hoboken Arts and Music Festival, which showcases paintings in various mediums, photography, global cuisine, and, of course, indie musicians. When you’ve seen your fill of the festival, head to one of the many restaurants like Blue Eyes, a Sinatra-themed Italian restaurant or grab a slice at Imposto’s pizza.
