The Best Boerum Hill Movers
Despite having a hill in its name, Boerum Hill is actually quite flat as it sits atop former marshes. The name was coined in 1946 and referenced the name of colonial farmer Boerum that occupied the area in 1790. Today, Boerum Hill is the most expensive neighborhood outside of Manhattan and the sixth highest neighborhood in NYC. With its beautiful brownstones, tree-lined streets, and plethora of restaurants and shops, it’s no wonder so many people want to live in this neighborhood.
If you’re one of those people who want to move to Boerum Hill then NYC Great Movers has you covered. Our Top Boerum Hill Moving Tips
Cost of Living
As noted earlier, Boerum Hill is the most expensive neighborhood outside of Manhattan. Average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is around $4,000 and prices only go up from there. If you want to buy, you can expect to pay at least $2 million.
Transportation
One of the reasons why people want to move to Boerum Hill is its access to public transportation. It’s close to the Atlantic Terminal, which means you have access to almost every train line including the Long Island Rail Road.
Crime and Safety
Boerum Hill is very safe with relatively low rates of violent and property crime. In general the southeast portion of the neighborhood is often considered the safest, but overall you won’t deal with too much crime in the area.
What to Do and See
Boerum Hill is a relatively small neighborhood, but it has plenty to offer. Parts of it have been designated the Boerum Hill Historic District by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission and the National Register of Historic Place. And walking around you get to see a nice mix of older buildings and newer high rises making for an interesting architectural landscape. If you prefer looking at other types of art, you’re in luck as Boerum Hill is home to many art galleries. It’s also a quick bike ride away from Prospect Park so you can easily get a bit of nature on the weekends.
If you’re looking for some more indoor things to do, head to Smith Street for a wide variety of small businesses and shops to peruse. Head to Bar Tabac for a low key night out with some drinks and delicious food. Or go to Bijan’s for some Peruvian fare and unique cocktails. Otherwise, if you walk a couple blocks outside of the neighborhood you have Barclay’s Center if you want to enjoy a night out watching a concert or a game. Or head over to BAM for some amazing performance art!
