Our Top Liberty Park Moving Tips
Cost of Living
Living along a waterfront is never cheap and Liberty Park is no exception. The average rent in the area is around $2,500 and homes go for around $500,000 or more. These prices, however, get you amazing views, easy access to Liberty State Park and a quick commute to NYC.
Transportation
Compared to other parts of Jersey City, Liberty Park doesn’t have as much public transportation, but that doesn’t mean you need a car to get around. It is still a very walkable neighborhood and fairly bike friendly. You can catch the Liberty Landing Ferry which will take you to lower Manhattan. There’s also the NJ transit train lines that will take you directly to Liberty Park.
Crime and Safety
Overall, Liberty Park is fairly safe. As a mostly residential neighborhood it doesn’t attract a lot of visitors. Crime rates in the neighborhood are lower than the average in New Jersey, but it’s still a good idea to be aware of your surroundings, especially at nights since the streets aren’t well lit. Still, it’s fairly quiet at all hours so you can rest assured that you’ll be safe during the day or night.
What to Do and See
The biggest draw of Liberty Park is Liberty State Park. The park is huge, having an area of 1,212 acres or 4.90 km2 . You get amazing views of the Statue of Liberty, lower Manhattan, and Jersey City. There are also a lot of landmarks like the Liberation sculpture which is a memorial to the Holocaust and Empty Sky, which is the official state memorial to the September 11 attacks. There’s more to the park than these somber memorials. It also has a nature center, which is open year round and exhibits on the history and ecology of the Hudson river. If you like golfing, right next door to the park is the Liberty National Golf Course.
There’s a lot to explore in Liberty State Park, but if you get tired of it, you can simply walk along the waterfront promenade and enjoy the scenic views of Manhattan. There are also plenty of biking paths that take you along the water and up to Hoboken. If you get hungry, stop by Pinwheel Garden Dumpling and Noodle for some tasty Asian fusion.
