Our Top Bay Ridge Moving Tips
Cost of Living
In comparison to the rest of NYC, Bay Ridge is surprisingly affordable. Average rents for one-bedrooms are around $1,800, and you can bet you’re getting a true one bedroom with a full kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. When it comes to buying, you can expect to pay close to a million for a house or around $450,000 for an apartment.
Transportation
The hardest thing about living in Bay Ridge is the commute. The neighborhood only has access to the R subway train, though there are two express buses the X27 and X37 that will get you into Manhattan. As of 2017, there’s also a ferry station that will take you to Wall Street or other areas in Brooklyn such as Red Hook and DUMBO.
Crime and Safety
Bay Ridge is an incredibly safe neighborhood and has less crime per capita than the city as a whole. There are also a total of two fire stations in the area and while there’s no hospital in the neighborhood Coney Island Hospital, NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn, and Maimonides Medical Center are located nearby.
What to Do and See
Bay Ridge is steeped in history due to its location along the water. There are a lot of historical buildings such as the Gingerbread House located on 8200 Narrows Avenue, which was erected in 1917. If you enjoy fishing, you can bring your pole to the 69th street pier and try your luck. Or walk along the water to enjoy the views. Start off at Owl’s Head Park and then stop by Shore Road Park for a great view of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. When you get hungry you can check out Amuni for some great Italian or Zamaan for some Middle Eastern fare.
