Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top Midtown Moving Tips

Cost of Living

With so many iconic locations in Midtown, you can bet that you’ll be paying top dollar for an apartment. Average rent for a one-bedroom hovers around $4,500 though the prices can vary based on building type, apartment, size, and more.

Transportation

You can hop on almost every train line here besides the L and G train. Everything else you can access easily no matter where you are in Midtown. You can even get out of the city easily as you’ll have access to every transportation hub like Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal, and Port Authority. There are even ferries you can hop on around West 33rd street behind the Javits Center if you want to get to Brooklyn, New Jersey, or Staten Island.

Crime and Safety

Midtown is a heavily trafficked area and as such it tends to see higher crime rates than the rest of the city. Most of the crime is directed towards tourists, but you should definitely exercise caution when walking around the area. Make sure your wallet and phones are secure and always stay alert when walking around especially at night. The area is served by 2 police departments and five fire stations.

What to Do and See

There is no end to the things you can do and see in Midtown. Since it covers such a broad area, almost all the most iconic NYC spots are located here. Check out Bryant Park for some fresh air and to enjoy the various activities that happen here, most notably the Christmas market and ice skating rink. If you want a bit of quiet time, head to the main branch of the New York Public Library to enjoy some books and check out the area where they filmed the original Ghostbusters movie. Then enjoy a concert at Carnegie Hall for classical music or Radio City Music Hall for more modern music. There’s also Madison Square Garden where you can catch concerts or some sports games.

You’ll be in foodie heaven if you move to Midtown. Since there are so many businesses in the area, the competition is fierce in the culinary field. You have fine dining options like Le Bernadin and Carmine’s and more casual fare like Brooklyn Diner and Junior’s Restaurant and Bakery. For a night out, you’ll definitely want to check out Blaggards Pub for a traditional Irish pub experience or enjoy the gorgeous views at Darling for some great cocktails and music. If your vice is shopping, Macy’s flagship store is the perfect place for some retail therapy.
