Our Top Brighton Beach Moving Tips
Cost of Living
Compared to other areas in Brooklyn or even Manhattan, Brighton Beach is relatively affordable with the average one bedroom rent around $2,200 and, more importantly, you get more bang for your buck. Apartments tend to be larger and you might even luck into an actual one bedroom with a living room, eat-in kitchen, and bedroom for that price. If you prefer owning an apartment, expect to pay around $300k for a co-op or $500k for a more luxury apartment.
Transportation
Many residents own vehicles to get around easier in Brooklyn, but there are still plenty of public transportation options available if you prefer to save some money. You can catch both the B and Q trains which will get you to midtown in under an hour. There are also plenty of local and express bus routes available.
Crime and Safety
For a law-abiding resident, Brighton Beach might not be as safe as parts of Queens or Staten Island, but it is still relatively safe. Crime rates are similar to the city average with most crime centered around grand larceny. With that said, it is home to the Russian Bratva, an organized crime unit, so make sure to be alert and steer clear of people who look like they might be part of a gang and you’ll be fine.
What to Do and See
If you live in Brighton Beach then you may as well visit the beach as often as possible. Obviously, the area gets packed during the summer time, but you can still enjoy the ocean any time of year. Walk along the boardwalk and go to Coney Island to enjoy the rides and attractions or Manhattan Beach for a quieter experience. Otherwise, walk down Brighton Beach Avenue and check out the various small businesses during the day while during the night you can enjoy various nightclubs.
When it comes to food you have plenty of options available to you with plenty of Eastern European options. Check out Ocean View Cafe for some traditional borscht and blintzes. Or go to 718 Bistro for more fusion European fare. You can also have some great drinks and food at Tatiana Grill. But if you want something different, check out Tone Cafe for Georgian fare.
