The Best Union Square Movers

Named after Union Square Park, the Union Square neighborhood got its name due to its location at the intersection of Broadway and Fourth Avenue creating a ‘union’ between them. Today, the area serves as a public space where people come together to hang out, shop, watch some live shows, or enjoy some delicious food. Walking around the area you’ll run into tourists, NYU students, and old-time residents. It’s truly a melting pot of cultures, ideas, and experiences.

Moving to Union Square doesn’t have to be hard! If you work with NYC Great Movers, we can get you into your new place in a New York Minute. Our highly trained team knows all the quirks of NYC streets, parking, and apartment buildings. Need a certificate of insurance? We can provide one that will work with pretty much every building in the area. How about packing materials? Of course we have plenty of boxes, bubble wrap, and more. Don’t want to pack? We’ll do it for you! Just let us know if you want us to do a room or your whole place. Either way, we’ve got you covered.

Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top Union Square Moving Tips

Cost of Living

Finding an apartment in Union Square isn’t easy, but if you want to live here make sure you budget at least $3,000 for a studio or $4,500 for a one-bedroom apartment. It’s not cheap, but you’ll also be able to live in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Manhattan.

Transportation

Union Square isn’t a popular meetup spot for nothing. It’s a public transportation hub with direct access to the 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, W, and L trains. Take the L train to get to Brooklyn or to go further west to catch the 1, 2, 3, B, D, F, M, A, C, E trains. On top of that, there are plenty of local and express bus stops in the area.

Crime and Safety

As a highly trafficked neighborhood, Union Square tends to see higher rates of crime than other parts of Manhattan. Union Square Park has a lot of street vendors and hustlers, so it’s best to avoid them as much as possible. If you do want to buy from street vendors, don’t wave around a wad of cash! Stay alert and aware of your surroundings to avoid potential issues.

What to Do and See

Union Square might be a small neighborhood, but there’s a lot to do! Visit the farmer’s market at Union Square Park for some fresh local produce and food. It is also home to the Winter Holiday Market, which features over 100 vendors selling their crafts, food, and art. On the south side of the park is the Metronome, a public art installation that provides an abstract display of time. Occasionally it will give the current time while others display the remaining time in the day. If you prefer staying indoors, check out the many concerts at Irving Plaza, which has hosted music legends like The Talking Heads and Paul McCartney. Or go to Daryl Roth Theatre for large scale off Broadway shows.

For foodies, Union Square is a great location. Go to Danny Meyer Daily Provisions for a nice cup of coffee and some pastries. Then head over to Trallucci e Vino for some classic Italian food. If you’re in the mood for something a bit spicier, go to Laut which offers a mix of Thai, Malaysian, and Singaporean dishes. Then top it off with some bubble tea and claw machine games at Sweet Cats.
