Our Top Journal Square Moving Tips
Cost of Living
Living in Journal Square isn’t cheap. You can expect to pay around $2,400 for a one-bedroom apartment. Or you can choose to buy an apartment for around $450,000. It’s certainly not cheap, but your rooms will be significantly larger than a one-bedroom in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Plus, you save money on things like food, utilities, and more.
Transportation
Journal Square is extremely walkable. In fact, you can get around the neighborhood easier on foot than by car. If you need to travel further, there are plenty of public transportation options including the PATH train, Light Rail, and buses.
Crime and Safety
As the business and government hub, Journal Square tends to be safer than the rest of Jersey City. Police patrol throughout the day, which leads to much lower crime rates in comparison to the rest of the city. Still, as a transit hub, it will attract a large quantity of people, which always leads to higher crime rates. Protect yourself by being alert to your surroundings and you should be fine.
What to Do and See
Commercial hubs tend to go hand-in-hand with restaurants to appease the workers in the area. Unsurprisingly, Journal Square has a lot of different restaurants to suit every taste. If you’re a fan of Indian food, you can walk through Little India and some dishes such as paratha or samosas at one of the many restaurants. Or sample some fresh fish from the Morgan Fish Market and Seafood. From May 27 to December 23rd, stroll through the farmers market for some fresh produce.
Once you’ve had some food, enjoy a beautiful day at Lincoln Park, one of the largest parks in Jersey City. It spreads across 250 acres and has a variety of activities such as tennis, golf, baseball, and more. After that, catch a show at the historic Lowe’s Jersey Theater to round out the day.
