The Best Hamilton Heights Movers

Located above Morningside Heights, many might consider Hamilton Heights as part of West Harlem, but those who live there would tell you otherwise. This neighborhood contains two historic districts: the Hamilton Heights Historic District and the Hamilton Heights/Sugar Hill Historic District Extension, both of which were designated by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission. And speaking of history, the neighborhood itself was named after founding father Alexander Hamilton, who lived the last two years of his life in what is now the Hamilton Grange National Memorial.

If you’re planning to move to this historic neighborhood, you’ll want to hire professional movers who know how to navigate the narrow streets and handle walk-ups. Luckily, NYC Great Movers is ready for any and all moving related services. We can handle stairs, provide buildings with the appropriate certificate of insurance, and, of course, offer basic disassembly and reassembly. Need more help? We provide partial and full packing services if you need it. So give us a call and we can make the transition to your new home seamless.

Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top Hamilton Heights Moving Tips

Cost of Living

You might think that living in one of these historic brownstones would be expensive, but Hamilton Heights is one of the most affordable neighborhoods in NYC. Many of the buildings are rent stabilized so you don’t have to worry about egregious rent hikes after your lease is up. One bedroom apartments average around $2,500 though you can find some places for cheaper.

Transportation

Whether you work downtown or just want to visit, it’s easy to get around. You have access to several train lines including the express A and D lines and the local 1 and C trains. There are several local buses that will take you to lower Manhattan or the Bronx.

Crime and Safety

Hamilton Heights has a slightly higher crime rate than the rest of Manhattan, but don’t let that number scare you off. It’s a very safe neighborhood during the daytime and only a bit dangerous late at night. The area is served by one fire and police department.

What to Do and See

As a historic district, just walking around Hamilton Heights can be an experience. You can enjoy the many pre-war apartments lining the area or head down to the City College of New York and enjoy the neo-Gothic architecture. While walking around the neighborhood, you can enjoy the Audubon Mural Project, which paints various images of birds on the sides of buildings. There are a total of 314 birds though some are only visible at night when the security gates have been closed. If you want to check out some actual birds, you can head over to the Riverbank State Park, which is part of Riverside Park that runs along the Hudson River. You can enjoy some lovely views of the water or picnic with some friends. For more indoors activities, you can catch a performance at the Dance Theatre of Harlem or the Harlem School of the Arts.

When it comes to food, there are plenty of options to choose from. Check out Hamilton’s Bar and Kitchen for some live music and standard American pub fare. Or try some delicious hand pulled noodles at Handpulled Noodle West. If you have more of a sweet tooth, head over to Sugar Hill Creamery for some of the best homemade ice cream in NYC or get some pastries and an espresso at Sugar Hill Cafe.
