Our Top Downtown Stamford Moving Tips
Cost of Living
Downtown Stamford is a sought after location and as such housing costs aren’t cheap. A one bedroom averages around $2,500 depending on the type of building you are moving into. Buying a place will cost you at least $350,000 for a condo plus associated condo/HOA fees and tax.
Transportation
Getting around Downtown Stamford is a breeze. It’s incredibly walkable so you don’t really need a car to explore the area. And if you need to get to NYC, you can hop on the Metro North, which will take you to Grand Central Station. If you do end up getting a car, it’s easy to get around as you have access to I-95 that will take you from Florida to Maine.
Crime and Safety
Downtown Stamford is incredibly safe. Crime rates are lower than the national average, but that doesn’t mean no crime happens. The most common crime is property crime, so make sure you lock the doors of your apartment and car.
What to Do and See
While it’s no NYC, there’s still plenty to do in Downtown Stamford. There are more than 80 restaurants and clubs in the area, making it a perfect place for foodies. The Stamford Downtown Special Services District, hosts events throughout the year including live outdoor concerts, balloon parades, and more. Even if you can’t attend one of these events, you can still catch some great theater and music at The Palace Theatre, the region’s premier center for performing arts.
After you’ve had some dinner or seen a show, take a break at one of the many parks in Downtown. Mill River Park is a local favorite as it offers plenty of activities including a carousel, skating rink, dog park, a discovery center for kids, and some great picnic locations along Mill River. If you’re a fan of the arts, there are several galleries where you can view the latest work from talented artists including the Mayor’s Gallery at the Government Center or the Stamford Art Association.
