Since its inception, Chelsea has been a busy hub for a variety of industries including manufacturing, art, and now hospitality and commercial. Nowadays, it is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Manhattan because of its access to a variety of amenities such as the Chelsea Market, the High Line, Hudson River Parkway, and more. Not to mention you’re in Manhattan so you also have amazing bars and restaurants within 5 blocks of your apartment.
It’s not easy moving to Chelsea, which is why you should reach out to NYC Great Movers. We offer some of the best moving services in the NYC area at a reasonable price. Our Top Chelsea Moving Tips
Cost of Living
Living anywhere in Manhattan isn’t cheap and Chelsea is one of the most expensive neighborhoods to call home. If you get lucky and find a rent stabilized apartment in the area, grab it! They are few and far between. Otherwise, you have your pick of condos, brownstones, or apartment complexes. Rents cost around $5,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and owning your own place can cost around $2 million.
Transportation
There’s plenty of ways to get around Manhattan. The city is extraordinarily walkable and most major locations are only a 15-20 minute walk from Chelsea. Of course, you also have easy access to multiple train lines such as the C, E, and 1 train. Walk up to 34th street and you can catch the LIRR at Penn Station or Amtrak if you want to travel further. And, of course, there are always plenty of buses and taxis/ubers to grab if you need to get somewhere fast(ish).
Crime and Safety
Chelsea is one of the safest places to live in Manhattan with crime rates lower than the city on average. Crime rates have significantly decreased since the 1990s. The area is patrolled by the one police precinct and two fire stations.
What to Do and See
If we listed out everything you could do in Chelsea, it would be a novel! However, there are a few points of interest you should definitely check out before you think about moving to the neighborhood. There’s the famed Chelsea Market where you can do your clothes and grocery shopping in the same place then head over to one of the many restaurants for a bite to eat. After that, you can walk along the High Line for some great nature and views of Manhattan.
If you’re more into art, there are plenty of places to visit such as the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Rubin Museum of Art. And while the area might now be too expensive for young, struggling artists to live, there are still plenty of art galleries dotting the neighborhood including the 20,000 square feet Dia Chelsea.
