The Best Flatiron Movers

While today it’s hard to imagine this downtown neighborhood being named anything else, it has only been referred to as the Flatiron District since the 1980s. Prior to that it was called the Toy District until around the 1940s due to all the Toy Center buildings and the annual International Toy Fair. After the companies moved out, it then was referred to as the Photo District due to the large number of photographer’s studios and associated buildings. Today, Flatiron is more known for its many restaurants, interesting architecture, and a high volume of tech companies. It’s a great place to live, work, and play!

There’s no reason you need to struggle with your move to the Flatiron District with NYC Great Movers by your side. We make the moving possible as easy as possible and can provide any number of additional services based on your needs and budget. Need help packing? We offer partial and full packing. Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top Flatiron Moving Tips

Cost of Living

There’s a lot of demand for apartments in the Flatiron District, which means rents tend to be on the higher side even for Manhattan. You can expect to pay around $4,500 on average for a one-bedroom apartment. If you want to buy then expect to pay around $2.5 million with prices expected to increase at least 10-15% year over year.

Transportation

If you do decide to venture out of your neighborhood, you can easily get around as you have access to the R, W, and 6 trains in the area. If you walk a bit further south to Union Square, you can catch the 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, W and L trains.

Crime and Safety

The Flatiron District is very safe and has a below average crime rate when compared to the rest of NYC. It is served by one police station and one fire department.

What to Do and See

Flatiron is the perfect place for foodies. It is home to the original Dannyl Meyer’s Shake Shack and Mario Battali’s Eataly. Make sure to stop by Eataly and pick up some Italian groceries or grab a bite to eat at the restaurant. If you’re looking for something a bit more highbrow, then check out Gramercy Tavern, a mainstay in the area that offers contemporary American cuisine.

Of course, there’s more to do than just eat! After visiting Shake Shack, enjoy a bit of nature in Madison Square Park. While small, it offers some of the best views of the surrounding buildings and it’s a great place for people and dog watching. The area is also home to a couple of museums including the Museum of Sex, which explores the cultural impacts of human sexuality throughout history. And just a stone’s throw away you can check out the Rubin Museum of art, which showcases ancient and modern Himalayan artwork. If you prefer art galleries, there are plenty of temporary spaces around the area including the Old Print Shop, which boasts a wide selection of historical American prints and maps.
