It’s no surprise why Carnegie Hill is one of the most sough after neighborhoods as it has historic brownstones, tree-lined streets, and close proximity to cultural institutions like the Met, MoMa, and Guggenheim. And with Central Park right next door, you’ll never have to go anywhere else!

Our Top Carnegie Hill Moving Tips
Cost of Living
There’s a lot to love about Carnegie Hill and the rent prices reflect that. You can expect to pay around $3,800 for a one-bedroom apartment. Want to own one of the gorgeous brownstones? You better be ready to pay at least $3.2 million.
Transportation
Thanks to the Q line extension back in 2017, Carnegie Hill now has access to the 4, 5, 6, and Q subway lines. Want to get out of NYC, there’s a Metro North station at 96th street. Besides that, it’s also incredibly walkable and bike-friendly.
Crime and Safety
Carnegie Hill is a very safe neighborhood having a much lower crime rate than NYC as a whole. It is also served by two fire departments.
What to Do and See
Carnegie Hall is the place if you love museums. It is home to the Museum Mile, which includes NYC staples such as the Metropolitan, Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and the Goethe House German Cultural Center. It’s also home to several art galleries including the Neue Galerie which is dedicated to German and Austrian art. After you’re done, head over to Central Park for a nice stroll and maybe even stop by the Central Park Zoo. If you prefer something a bit more intimate, there are several little neighborhood parks where you relax. Or head further east and enjoy a walk along the East River Promenade.
Although Carnegie Hill is a mostly residential neighborhood, there’s still plenty of places for food and entertainment. Sarabeth’s is a local favorite for some delicious baked goods and brunch. Or check out Cafe Sabarsky in Cafe Neue for a Viennese-style cafe. There’s also Cafe Boulud, created by chef Daniel Boulud, if you’re looking for someplace to eat for a special occasion. After you’re done eating, there are plenty of boutique shops sprinkled around the area. The most famous being along Madison Avenue where you can shop at brand name stores like Gucci, Prada, and more.
