Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top St. George Moving Tips

Cost of Living

You might think that living in St. George would be pricey, but it’s actually affordable when compared to other neighborhoods in NYC. Most residents rent their home and pay an average of around $2,000 for their apartments, though you might be able to find some better deals if you have the time to look. Buying is a little harder, but you should be able to find a place for under $600,000, and that’s for an actual house, not a condo.

Transportation

One of the best things about living in St. George is that you have access to all the public transportation options. You have the Staten Island Ferry that is completely free and runs every 15-20 minutes during rush hour and every 30 minutes at other times. You can also hop on the Staten Island Railway to visit other neighborhoods on the island. There are also express and local buses that stop at St. George that will take you to other parts of Staten Island and Manhattan.

Crime and Safety

Considering how densely populated St. George is, crime rates are higher than other parts of Staten Island though on par with the city as a whole. It is served by the NYPD 120th precinct and two fire stations.

What to Do and See

There’s no shortage of things to do in St. George. Walk along the North Shore Waterfront Esplanade Park for some great views of Lower Manhattan. If you’re into the performance arts, you can stop by the St. George Theater for some live music or plays. After that, check out the quaint National Lighthouse Museum or the Staten Island Museum for more information on the local history and natural science of the island.

When it comes to food and dining, you have plenty of options. Go to Craft House for some amazing BBQ and microbrews. Or stop by SI Fish and More for some delicious soul food. If you want to eat along the water, check out River Dock Cafe. Should you get tired of your options, hop on the ferry to Lower Manhattan for some more options! For shopping, stop by Empire Outlets right off the ferry for some great access to outlet stores like Nordstrom, Nike, and Banana Republic. There’s even the Staten Island Playhouse here so you can enjoy a play before or after your shop!
