Transportation
There’s not much in the way of public transportation out here, but that doesn’t mean you can’t commute. You do have access to the L train and there’s a 3 train nearby. There are also plenty of local and express bus routes that will take you to Queens and Brooklyn.
Crime and Safety
Spring Creek is a safe and friendly neighborhood, backed by two police precincts and three fire stations. Quiet streets and a strong community vibe make it easy to feel at ease, whether you’re out for a walk, heading to the park, or just running errands.
What to Do and See
While it might have originally been a place for illegal dumping and landfills, the area has developed to the point where there are plenty of beautiful places to enjoy outside. There are two main parks in the area: Spring Creek Park, operated by both the city and federal government, which was created on a former landfilled marshland. The park offers plenty of hiking trails, bike paths, and even wetlands for residents to enjoy. You can also head over to Shirley Chisholm State Park, a 407-acre park that was built atop two landfills and is the third largest park in Brooklyn, behind Marine Park and Prospect Park.
Not a nature lover? You can still get your steps in at the Gateway Center, which serves as the primary shopping hub for the area. Here you can shop at various chain retailers, supermarkets, and, of course, have your pick of dining options. There’s also a host of classic dining options, including Red Crab Juicy Seafood for seafood lovers and Cachapas Brooklyn for classic Venezuelan options. If you’re craving a pizza, definitely check out Pizza Studio for a classic NYC slice.
