Our Top Moving Tips

Our Top Inwood Moving Tips

Cost of Living

More and more people are starting to move out to Inwood due to its access to nature and its relatively affordable rents. As such, rents have gone up but you can still find a one bedroom apartment for under $2,500. Buying a house might also be attainable as you can find a place for under $500,000.

Transportation

One of the biggest draws of living in Inwood is its access to public transportation. You can hop on the express A train and get to midtown in under 30 minutes. Or walk a bit further east and take the 1 train. There are also plenty of express and local bus routes that will take you throughout Manhattan and the Bronx. And since you’re so far up north, getting a car might not be a horrible idea as you can easily pop over a bridge and get to Westchester in under 30 minutes.

Crime and Safety

While Inwood’s crime rate is slightly higher than the city overall, you don’t need to worry too much especially during the day time. There’s not too much in the way of assaults here, but property crime tends to be on the higher side, so make sure to lock your windows and doors before you leave! Inwood is home to one police and fire department.

What to Do and See

Despite not being advertised as much to tourists or even other New Yorkers, Inwood has a lot to offer. It’s home to Inwood Hill Park, a large old-growth forest in NYC, which is home to the last salt marsh in NYC. Explore the miles of hiking trails that take you through the park or walk along the waterfront promenade for some beautiful views. From the park you can view the 100-foot C painted onto the rock across the Harlem River. Inwood Hill Park also connects to other parks, most notably Fort Tryon, which is home to The Cloisters, a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that showcases Medieval art and culture.

Outside of the park, there’s plenty to do and see in Inwood. More retailers and restaurants are popping up every year and you can enjoy flavors from around the world. There’s Inwood Farm, a cozy cafe serving American fare and amazing coffee. If you’re in the mood for Spanish, head to Galicia Tapas for some small bites. Then head to CHOCnyc for a wide variety of pastries.
